The Broadwater County Museum will open for the 2024 season on Wednesday May 15th at 1:00. We are located at 133 North Walnut Street; across the alley from the jail.
We have been busy getting ready for this season with cleaning, arranging new displays and preparing for the open house program.
The Broadwater County Historical Society is partnering with the Canton Valley Woman’s Club for our open house program this year.
The Canton Valley Woman’s Club was 100 years old on March 19, 2024. Linda Huth will present an interesting program about the history of the club, describing their projects and membership.
The talk will range from sponsoring the Charity Ball to spearheading the dust abatement project to cleaning up Heritage Park plus much more. We have included several historic photographs to accompany the talk.
The program is scheduled for Sunday, May 19th at 2:00 at the museum at 133 North Walnut Street. We hope you can join us for an informative and interesting talk. There will be a reception following the program.
A new MSU Extension Mobile Memory Cafe program will kick off in early spring, bringing social engagement and dementia awareness to communities across Montana.
Developed by MSU Assistant Professor and Gerontology Specialist Dr. Daniel Koltz, the Living Well with Dementia and Mobile Memory Cafe initiative offers free, research-informed resources to caregivers and individuals with early-onset Alzheimer’s or dementia. Social engagement for people with dementia is important for “living Well with Dementia.” The mobile memory café serves this purpose. Topics covered include prevention, brain health, nutrition, sleep, social activity, and physical health. The program is supported by sponsors, including the Montana Geriatric Education Center, County and Statewide Area Agencies on Aging, and the Alzheimer’s Association Montana Chapter.
The Mobile Memory Cafe has scheduled visits during the first week of each month in various communities as the program begins. There are plans to reach more communities beginning in the fall.
The startup program will commence in April and continue as a pilot project through June.

The Imagination Library is a partnership between the Broadwater County Social Services Committee (BCSSC) and the Dollywood Foundation. Every child who is enrolled in the program receives a free age-appropriate book every month from birth until the age of 5. It is open to any child residing in Broadwater County.
In 2022, a survey was done with parents in Broadwater County with children currently enrolled in the program or recent graduates. The survey showed the program is already making a big impact in the community in just three years by increasing reading time, improving kindergarten readiness, promoting family bonding and fostering a love for reading. The survey respondents indicated:
BCSSC is raising funds to continue operating the program. The Dolly Parton Foundation covers the administrative cost of the program while the local organization funds the cost of books, postage and mailing. The local cost is $25/child/year. If you should like to sponsor a child to participate in the program or give a general donation, please complete the form below. BCSSC is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and all donations are tax deductible. For more information about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library or to enroll, visit https://imaginationlibrary.com/.
