DESCRIPTION:Broadwater County Museum to Host Open House\nThe Broadwater County Museum will open for the 2024 season on Wednesday May 15th at 1:00.  We are located at 133 North Walnut Street; across the alley from the jail. \nWe have been busy getting ready for this season with cleaning\, arranging new displays and preparing for the open house program. \nThe Broadwater County Historical Society is partnering with the Canton Valley Woman’s Club for our open house program this year. \nThe Canton Valley Woman’s Club was 100 years old on March 19\, 2024.  Linda Huth will present an interesting program about the history of the club\, describing their projects and membership. \nThe talk will range from sponsoring the Charity Ball to spearheading the dust abatement project to cleaning up Heritage Park plus much more.  We have included several historic photographs to accompany the talk. \nThe program is scheduled for Sunday\, May 19th at 2:00 at the museum at 133 North Walnut Street.  We hope you can join us for an informative and interesting talk.  There will be a reception following the program. \n

Our idea is to have 3 course dinners\, 4 times a year with a full kitchen staff and wait staff. This concept would be a “Reservation Only” dinner to help us prepare efficiently to provide you with the service and meal you deserve. The menus will be carefully curated using the freshest of local ingredients including vegetables\, grains and meats. \nChef Heather’s Prix Fixe menu will be available for you to view online on the Big Sky Culinary Classes website https://www.bigskyculinaryclasses.com/ 2 weeks in advance to each dinner. The deadline for  Dinner #1 reservations is June 1st.  Reservations can be made a few different ways; By calling Heather  @ 303-406-1501\, emailing through the BSCC website portal or simply emailing bigskyculinaryclasses@gmail.com. \nOur 1st dinner will be held on June 8th at The Lodge with 2 seatings\, reservation only. We will have menus for you to review what you will be served that evening but there will be no “ordering” per se. \nThe Lodge has no liquor license\, therefore you are invited to bring your own alcohol\, wine or beer\, maybe a nice whiskey or scotch to enjoy during your meals. We will provide water and coffee\, cream and sugar\, wine and bottle openers etc… \nThe price per person\, for our 1st dinner\, is $55 for a 3 course steak dinner. DESCRIPTION:  \nMary Bradford is a talented historic interpreter and scholar who brings history to life for audiences of all ages. She is an artist in residence for the C. M. Russel Museum in Great Falls and the Montana Historical Society in Helena. \nJoin us at the Canton Church as Mary brings Calamity Jane to life. \nThe name Calamity Jane brings to mind an iconic character of the American West. Accounts of Calamity—whose real name was Martha Canary—are legion and she has achieved mythical status in the lore of the frontier. She lived and traveled throughout Wyoming\, Montana\, and the Dakotas from 1867 to 1903\, during some of the West’s wildest days. The voracious Victorian press sensationalized her activities\, and as a flamboyant character in popular dime novels\, Calamity Jane’s legend grew until the person behind the character all but disappeared. Who better to give us insights about the real story than madam Dora DuFran\, a Black Hills pioneer\, entrepreneur and close friend of Calamity’s. Ms. DuFran built a successful red light business during the rambunctious early days of the western frontier in Deadwood\, South Dakota\, and has a unique perspective about how wild it really was. Ms. DuFran knows better than anyone the life of Martha Canary and Calamity Jane\, two quite different women\, one legendary\, one all but forgotten.

SUMMARY:Townsend Rotary Slice of Summer - July 18\,2024
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Rotary Club of Townsend’s first 2024 Slice of Summer family fun event will be held on Thursday\, July 18 in Heritage Fun Park. \nSlice of Summer includes Youth Activities that run from 2:00-5:00 pm and Family Activities that run from 5:00-8:00 pm. Rotary is paying for free youth swimming from 1-4 and 6-8 pm. Other youth activities will include a free bouncy house\, face painting\, and/or tattoos\, games\, etc. Family activities include free musical entertainment and reasonably priced food and drink. Food and drinks will be served by Rotary\, Interact\, and the Lions starting mid-afternoon for families through 8 pm. Live music begins at 5 pm and goes to 8 pm. \nLive music for the July Slice of Summer will feature Phatt Lipp. Phatt Lipp is a three-piece band from Canyon Ferry Montana featuring Dave Ohler on guitar and vocals\, Dan Corbett on bass and vocals\, and Mary Tripp on percussion and vocals. Dave and Dan were the founding members of Gramaphatt\, a high energy rock and roll dance band that played throughout western Montana for 20 years\, and Mary performed off and on with the band over the years. Gramaphatt disbanded in 2020 and reincarnated as Phatt Lipp in 2022. \nPhatt Lipp is an acoustic trio featuring the vocals of Dave and Mary. The band plays an eclectic variety of music from bluegrass and country to old and new rock including original material. The band covers artists such as Johnny Cash\, Zac Brown\, Alison Kraus\, Grateful Dead\, John Prine\, Bruce Springsteen\, and Adele. Come and enjoy this wonderful free music provided by Rotary.

DESCRIPTION:The 2024 Montana Lineman’s Rodeo will be held Saturday\, July 20th\, 2024 at the Townsend Fairgrounds.  189 US Hwy 12 East Townsend\, MT 59644.   Pre-event activities will begin July 19th at 5:00 PM and the Rodeo will begin at 8:30  AM on Saturday.
