SUMMARY:Historic Canton Church Presents: Judy Williams
DESCRIPTION:Judy Williams is a native Montanan born and raised in White Sulphur Springs.  She was the middle child of a musical family. Judy plays bass guitar and sang with popular country bands for several years in the Spokane\, Washington and Coeur d’Alene\, Idaho area prior to moving back home to Montana in 1986. She continues to provide entertainment with dance music and laugh-filled variety shows. Her motto is: “If it isn’t fun\, I’m probably not doing it”. \nIn 1987 Judy married Broadwater County rancher Tom Williams and is actively involved in the ranch located near Radersburg. They raise beef cattle and hay on a portion of the ranch established by Tom’s grandfather who arrived in Montana in 1889. \nJudy performs professionally all over Montana and western Canada as “The Divine Bovines”. Judy observers the cattle on her ranch and then her keen sense of humor and her musical ability kick in as she writes hilarious parodies “from the cows’ point of view”. \nTo learn more about the Divine Bovines visit their website at www.divinebovines.com. \nIn addition to performing as the “Divine Bovines” Judy is the founder of “Dixie and the Cup Sisters” and has written/directed the Townsend Rotary Club Variety Show many times. The show was originally billed as a “Talent Show” but we found there was a lot of variety and not much talent. But Judy has managed to create entertaining and successful shows working with the variety she was given! \nI have heard Judy and her partner Carla Ahern perform as “Divine Bovines” (they were outstanding) and I have worked with Judy on the Townsend Rotary Variety Show (what a pleasure it was to work with Judy). She is terrific at everything she does — but\, by far\, my favorite performance is her “Dancing with my Daddy” an original song written by Judy. That song always makes feel like a small child and really makes me remember and miss my own father. \nMontana PBS honored Judy by choosing her to be featured in a segment of their popular Back Roads of Montana program in May of 2014. Repeated airings of that segment still continue to generate future bookings. \n \n  \n  \n

Youth activities include free use of the swimming pool.  Family activities include free musical entertainment and reasonably priced food and drink. \nTownsend Rotary Club\, Lions Club and other organizations will be providing affordable food starting mid-afternoon will be provided again for families through 8 pm.  Music begins at 5 pm and goes to 8 pm. \nSlice of Summer started after Broadwater County High School students mentioned in interviews for Rotary scholarships that Townsend needed some fun event for families like the Alive at Five event in Helena.

DESCRIPTION:The Historic Canton Church will continue our Summer Schedule of Events on July 28 at 5:00pm with the Eliel Family Band. As always are events are free – although we do accept donations!\nThe Eliel Family Band is a local area band that is an extremely popular at the Canton Church. Tom Eliel will perform on lead guitar and mandolin. His wife Joan performs on upright bass. Their performance will be a mix of bluegrass\, gospel and old country favorites. \nWhen the Eliel Family Band plays we never know who will be there to play. It might be just Joan and Tom; they might be joined by their children; they might be joined by one or both of Joan’s brothers\, Jim and John (who play in their own band “The Ruby Valley Boys and Barb Wire”). Or the Eliels might show up with other local area musicians. \nWe do know that whoever shows up to play it will be an EXCELLENT event! \nThe Historic Canton Church was built in 1875-1876 and is one of the few surviving buildings from the town of Canton which was flooded during the creation of Canyon Ferry Lake. DESCRIPTION:August 29\, 2023\n9:00am to 2:00pm\n  \n \n  \n\n\nBackyards of Broadwater\n\n\n\n\nBackyards of Broadwater is a self-guided yard and garden tour organized by Broadwater County Master Gardeners and the Extension Office.  It highlights community members with unique and innovative landscapes and gardens\, and provides an opportunity to network with others and share the lessons learned along the way.  Proceeds from the event support community horticulture projects.  Past beneficiaries includes the Townsend Tree Board\, Townsend Garden Club & Study and gardening programs at Townsend Schools.The first Backyards of Broadwater Tour debuted in August 2014\, organized by Dawn Reynolds with the Townsend Heritage Gardens.  After a brief hiatus\, it returned in 2017 with fresh ideas\, new gardens and old favorites. \nThe next tour will be Saturday\, July 29\, 2023 from 9:00am-2:00pm. \nWhere can I buy tickets? \nTickets are $5.00 and  go on sale on July 1. Tickets are on sale at the Extension Office\, Townsend Hardware\, Goose Bay Glass\, Chadwick’s Nursery and Birds and Beasely’s. \nHow do I participate as a garden location on the tour?  \nContact Becky Flynn at 406-980-0041 or the Extension Office at 406-266-9242.  We are always on the lookout for new gardens to add to the event and try to rotate every year to a different part of the county.  It doesn’t matter the size\, content or your experience level.  We can always learn from each other! \nWhere do I get more information? \nIn addition to contacting the Extension Office\, you can reach out to event organizers and Master Gardeners.  You can also follow “Backyards of Broadwater” on Facebook to see some of the event highlights and details. \n  \n\n\n\n
