DESCRIPTION:Slice of Summer is a community-sponsored family fun event held on the third Thursday of July\, and August  at Heritage Fun Park.  Mark your calendars-this year’s Slice of Summer dates are July 20 and August 17. \nSlice of Summer includes Youth Activities that run from 1:00-5:00 pm and Family Activities that run from 5:00-8:00 pm. Youth activities include free use of the swimming pool.  Family activities include free musical entertainment and reasonably priced food and drink. \nTownsend Rotary Club\, Lions Club and other organizations will be providing affordable food starting mid-afternoon will be provided again for families through 8 pm.  Music begins at 5 pm and goes to 8 pm. \nSlice of Summer started after Broadwater County High School students mentioned in interviews for Rotary scholarships that Townsend needed some fun event for families like the Alive at Five event in Helena.

DESCRIPTION:The Historic Canton Church will continue our Summer Schedule of Events on July 28 at 5:00pm with the Eliel Family Band. As always are events are free – although we do accept donations!\nThe Eliel Family Band is a local area band that is an extremely popular at the Canton Church. Tom Eliel will perform on lead guitar and mandolin. His wife Joan performs on upright bass. Their performance will be a mix of bluegrass\, gospel and old country favorites. \nWhen the Eliel Family Band plays we never know who will be there to play. It might be just Joan and Tom; they might be joined by their children; they might be joined by one or both of Joan’s brothers\, Jim and John (who play in their own band “The Ruby Valley Boys and Barb Wire”). Or the Eliels might show up with other local area musicians. \nWe do know that whoever shows up to play it will be an EXCELLENT event! \nThe Historic Canton Church was built in 1875-1876 and is one of the few surviving buildings from the town of Canton which was flooded during the creation of Canyon Ferry Lake. SUMMARY:2023 Backyards of Broadwater
DESCRIPTION:August 29\, 2023\n9:00am to 2:00pm\n  \n \n  \n\n\nBackyards of Broadwater\n\n\n\n\nBackyards of Broadwater is a self-guided yard and garden tour organized by Broadwater County Master Gardeners and the Extension Office.  It highlights community members with unique and innovative landscapes and gardens\, and provides an opportunity to network with others and share the lessons learned along the way.  Proceeds from the event support community horticulture projects.  Past beneficiaries includes the Townsend Tree Board\, Townsend Garden Club & Study and gardening programs at Townsend Schools.The first Backyards of Broadwater Tour debuted in August 2014\, organized by Dawn Reynolds with the Townsend Heritage Gardens.  After a brief hiatus\, it returned in 2017 with fresh ideas\, new gardens and old favorites. \nThe next tour will be Saturday\, July 29\, 2023 from 9:00am-2:00pm. \nWhere can I buy tickets? \nTickets are $5.00 and  go on sale on July 1. Tickets are on sale at the Extension Office\, Townsend Hardware\, Goose Bay Glass\, Chadwick’s Nursery and Birds and Beasely’s. \nHow do I participate as a garden location on the tour?  \nContact Becky Flynn at 406-980-0041 or the Extension Office at 406-266-9242.  We are always on the lookout for new gardens to add to the event and try to rotate every year to a different part of the county.  It doesn’t matter the size\, content or your experience level.  We can always learn from each other! \nWhere do I get more information? \nIn addition to contacting the Extension Office\, you can reach out to event organizers and Master Gardeners.  You can also follow “Backyards of Broadwater” on Facebook to see some of the event highlights and details. \n  \n\n\n\n
