DESCRIPTION:Backyards of Broadwater is a self-guided yard and garden tour organized by Broadwater County Master Gardeners and the Extension Office.  It highlights community members with unique and innovative landscapes and provides an opportunity to network with others and share the lessons learned along the way. \nThe first Backyards of Broadwater Tour debuted in August 2014\, organized by the Townsend Heritage Gardens.  After a brief hiatus\, it’s back with fresh ideas\, new gardens and old favorites. \nThe next tour will be Saturday\, July 20th\, 2019 from 10:00am-3:00pm.  Tickets are $5.00 per person and will go on sale on July 1st.  Continue to check back for garden details and ticket locations!  Hope to see you in the backyards of Broadwater County! \nHow do I participate as a garden location on the tour?  \nContact Dawn Reynolds at 406-266-1045.  We are always on the lookout for new gardens to add to the event and try to rotate every year.  It doesn’t matter the size\, content or your experience level.  We can always learn from each other! \nWhere do I get more information? \nIn addition to contacting the Extension Office\, you can also reach event organizers and Master Gardeners\, Dawn Reynolds at 406-266-1045.  You can also follow “Backyards of Broadwater” on Facebook to see some of the event highlights and details.

DESCRIPTION:Location: High School Lobby\nTime: 9 am to 4 pm \nMy name is Kim Hines. My 7 year old son Jack looks like a typical kid. He’s funny\, quick to crack a joke or play a prank. He’s one of those kids that just make you smile. what you don’t see is that his body has been going haywire. On valentines day 2018 we found out he has Cerebral Palsy and a tethered spinal cord. Most of his current problems started when he had surgery to release it a month later. The doctors believe that he had an underlying Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) dysfunction which was very mild. When the spinal cord was released it aggravated all the connecting nerves causing the ANS to go haywire. The ANS controls the bodily functions you don’t have to think about\, blood pressure\, heart beat\, sweat\, pupil focus\, ect. Jack has a variety of symptoms that effect his daily life\, chronic chest and tummy pain\, tacchardia\, blood pressure instability. He gets “weak and shaky” and feels something similar to vertigo. He has Gastroparesis (slow emptying of the stomach) and encopresis (huge colon) due to chronic constipation. His whole digestion system is slow and he has a cecostomy tube so he can go to the bathroom regularly. His bladder is huge and doesn’t work properly. He doesn’t sweat and his body temperature regulation often doesn’t function as it should. His skin is often mottled and he’ll occasionally turn blue. He needs to have specialized tests that are only available for children his age at a handful of places in the country. His health insurance will not cover it and most are not accepting new patients. The Dysautonomia Center of Excellence had a space opened up for him on Nov 11th. I’m hoping to raise as much as i can to help fund these tests and hopefully provide some relief for my little boy. There is no cure\, but the tests will tell us exactly what systems are effected and we’ll be able to determine what meds and therapies can help to stabilize his little body. SUMMARY:Hospital Auxiliary to Hold Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to the hospital Auxiliary annual meeting on Thursday Sept. 12 at the Mint Café in Townsend at 6pm.  The featured speaker will be a person from the Billings Clinic\, the group which is working to become partners with the Townsend hospital\, according to Auxiliary chair Donna Harper. \nThe annual meeting culminates the work the 26 member group does throughout the year to raise funds for the special needs of the residents in BHC’s long term residents unit. The Auxiliary also purchases needed equipment for the hospital.  This year the group purchased a specialized wheel chair for one of residents and contributed   $10\,000 toward the $200\,000 match fundraiser which was held during the spring and summer of this year. \nThe Auxiliary’s main fund raiser is the Leprechaun Festival\, held in March.  The festival is a party held during the doldrums of late winter complete with good food\, Irish music and sometimes entertainment.  The silent auction is always a draw.  Rodeo weekend\, the first weekend in August is the Auxiliary’s community spirit event.  The barbequed beef dinner is enjoyed by upwards of 400 people who are out to attend the annual parade\, the fair and the rodeo. \nHarper encourages the public to attend the meeting and to join the Auxiliary.  “The dues are $15.  Just come and be a part of a great group of volunteers.  We have lots of fun\,” Harper said. \nFor reservations for the dinner\, please contact secetary Jeanne Randolph at 266-3237 or email jeanneran@yahoo.com by Sept. 5.
